Remember my post about joining the choir thing? Well, I started out yesterday during the morning mass. My mom told Ate Erna, the president of one of our church’s choir group and neighbor, about my interest in joining the choir. She was quite delighted with the opportunity since they also need new members. After we were introduced she gave me a brief introduction of their choir, their achievements and their activities outside the church. It turned out that they’re more than just the typical choir I see in the church. This choir have produced one tape and two CDs, have their own concerts, able to sing Latin, folk songs and can even rap. They have regular concerts at the Mandarin Hotel during Christmas Eve and are often invited to sing at weddings. You can imagine how intimidated I felt at first hearing out those things. But instead of backing out I begin to think of it as an opportunity to work on improving my seldom used talent and meet people so I took a shot.

I was found at the church grounds Sunday morning with Ate Erna and her husband, one of the oldest choir member. I have never set foot at church in the morning ever since I was a kid and the number of children running around amused me such that I could almost remember vividly those days when my sisters and I would drag my Dad to the vendors outside and buy those P1 junk food wrapped in transparent plastics. I was roused back to reality when Ate Erna started introducing me with some of the members. When we entered the church I realized there were only five of us and I was thinking how would our voices be heard in such a huge crowd and no microphone. My doubts vanished the moment the organ was played and the opening song was sung. They were able to sing with such beautiful strong voices that resonate mellifluously within the walls of the church. I joined them in some pieces I know and one of them told me I was a soprano. After the mass, they welcomed me again and informed me the schedule for rehearsals. ^_^
